POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director will support the strategic planning and district mission assuring that every student and staff member has opportunity to become a competent user of technology and that technological resources are available to enhance the instructional, administrative, and management functions of the school district. This person will support student learning, and provide support for students to be competitive in today’s world. The Director of Technology is responsible for oversight of the Columbia Falls School District’s technology, network, and data systems. The Director of Technology ensures the performance, security, and data integrity of network-based and computing resources in the district. The Director of Technology provides training and assistance for district personnel to support student learning.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Job Status—Full Time
  • Rate of Pay- Salary- $ 60,000 + negotiable based on experience
  • Positions supervised- Support Techs
  • Minimum travel required
  • Work schedule- 12 Calendar Months- 260 days. 2,080 hours
  • Retirement/Benefits-Social Security and Public Employees Retirement System (PERS)
  • Health Insurance- same as for non-represented classified employees
  • Vacation/Sick Leave- per state statutes 2-18-612 and 2-18-618
  • Holidays- School holidays as defined in Montana Code Annotated (MCA) 20-1-305 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support infrastructure security and development, communication systems, network systems and hardware/software acquisitions, replacement, and repair.
  • Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Curriculum Director to enhance staff proficiency and integration of technology into the classroom.
  • Continue developing and implementing the District’s Instructional Technology plan, and facilitate the continued development of the technology infrastructure for the primary purpose of enhancing student achievement in all areas of the curriculum.
  • Coordinate and oversee the installation of new infrastructure, hardware, software, security, and communication systems.
  • Review specifications and drawings for construction projects involving low voltage technology infrastructure and perform related inspections and evaluation.
  • Support of staff using an array of technology applications to support instruction and learning.
  • Perform all duties of a manager, including I.T. hiring recommendations, training, planning, and implementing development and training plans.
  • Develops, recommends, and monitors technology budgets.
  • Manage Request for Proposal (RFP) process and competitive procurement process in compliance with Montana State Laws.
  • Review Montana volume purchasing contracts, OETC membership, vendor contracts and implementation.
  • Procure eligible equipment and services using the federal E-Rate program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Technology:

  • Knowledge of I.T. infrastructure firewall, network security, anti-virus, and management of platforms.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and networking principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN/MAN/wireless technology.
  • Knowledge of computer and cloud systems in a multi-platform environment.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, G-Suite Administration, and Microsoft Administration management.
  • Must possess an expert level of knowledge in the information technology field with a background in Microsoft systems, Dell Client and Server, Apple hardware, and cross-platform interconnectivity.
  • Ability to provide technical advice and instruction for non-technical staff.
  • Ability to research and analyze hardware and software.
  • Test and deploy user requested software platforms, apps, and extensions.
  • Review OS-Server/PC updates, software updates, and deploy during non-school days.
  • Provide troubleshooting of technical issues related to District infrastructure and end users. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The qualified candidate must demonstrate a successful level of leadership, knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Thorough, current working knowledge in the area of technology planning and implementation in an educational setting.
  • Ability to support instructional programs for schools through technology.
  • Experience managing and providing leadership, guidance, and growth plans to a team of individuals.
  • Knowledge of project management, technical communication, and installing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data systems.
  • Ability to construct, implement, monitor time lines, and meet deadlines on projects and reports.

EDUCATION  AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree preferred in Information Systems and Computer Science.  A+ Network Certification, Microsoft Certification, G-Suite Certification, related to responsibilities with three years related experience; or any combination of experience and training, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.   4. MMR immunization records – If born after December 31, 1956, you will need to provide proof of immunity (titer test) or medical records verifying that your Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations are up-to-date before the first day of work.

All employment offers are contingent upon providing complete MMR records, satisfactory results of the background check, and Board approval.
