REPORTS TO: Special Services Director/School Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide services in primarily the 6-8 grade. Upon occasion, teacher consultation at the grades 9-12 may also be requested/required.
- Coach school personnel on research based methods of classroom management and behavioral strategies.
- Collaborate with school psychologists and others involved in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, and crisis plans.
- Ensure regular progress monitoring occurs for students with behavior plans by coordinating and bringing together the relevant staff to review data and revise plans as indicated.
- Participate in the IEP process when students have a behavior plan indicated in their IEP.
- Participate in 504 meetings when behavior supports are indicated.
- Close collaboration with building principals, counselors, special services director, school psychologists in the development of behavior plans and programs.
- Work closely with administration to develop School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (SWPBIS) that would be consistent across the district elementary schools.
- Assist teachers through observation and consultation to better implement the school’s PBIS and a student’s individual behavior plan.
- Work collaboratively to develop appropriate procedures for a behavior support referral.
- Provide parental support by informing them of community resources, parent training, etc.
- Participate in and provide workshops, training and other professional development as required by district.
- Act as district trainer for preventative behavioral approaches and programs.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is desired; a Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis or Special Education is preferred.
- Ability to obtain a valid Montana Educator’s Certificate in special education area or Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
- Experience with the IDEA process and goal writing, or a like position.
- Prefer board certification as a behavior analyst (BCBA)
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus.
- Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process.
- Ability to collect, summarize, and graph behavioral data.
- Ability to use and model research based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes.
- Ability to act as administrative designee for Evaluation Report and IEP meetings.
- Ability of effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff and the community.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
EQUIPMENT USED:
A variety of classroom devices, as well as basic office equipment, copiers, calculators, personal computers, telephone/voicemail, fax.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside, but some duties will be performed outside, including recess, etc. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee is directly responsible for safety and well-being of students.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand; twist at the neck and waist; kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments. May be required to life or move up to 30 pounds.
MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.

If hired, these requirements must be met before the first day of work:
- Fingerprinting - This district requires final candidates to pay for their own background check. Fingerprinting is done by appointment only; please call Karla Therrien at (406) 892-6550, ext. 1421. The cost is $30.00, payable by cash or check only, at the time of service.
- MMR immunization records – If born after December 31, 1956, you will need to provide proof of immunity (titer test) or medical records verifying that your Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations are up-to-date before the first day of work.
